We are very pleased to be able to support the ‘House Of Comfort’. It will provide a service that is greatly needed in Aroostook County. We commend Rick and Nancy Duncan for “picking up the torch” and organizing this effort and bringing it to fruition. As a couple, we are very familiar with the amount of time and effort necessary to initiate and sustain a campaign such as this. We thank them for their diligent effort to create a peaceful, comfortable place where families can rally to support their loved one together in a home-like environment. The location is perfect, with a panoramic view of the countryside, a peaceful backyard for all to enjoy, and close proximity to lodging for family and friends. We encourage everyone to support this wonderful cause created to make life’s most difficult challenge at least a little less harsh.

Aroostook House of Comfort Hosts Project Kickoff Event at its Future Hospice and Palliative Care Facility

Aroostook County, ME – July 31, 2015 — The Aroostook Hospice Foundation hosted a project kickoff event on Friday, July 31st at the future location of its hospice and palliative care facility, the former MBNA building, located at 18 Green Hill Drive in Presque Isle. The Aroostook Hospice Foundation recently purchased the 15,075 square foot building and will remodel the facility and a 2,270 square foot addition to accommodate six private suites for hospice patients as well as a chapel, dining area, conference rooms and other amenities for patients and their families. The remodeled facility will include 7,500 square feet of separate office space available for lease.

Guests at the kickoff toured the building and reviewed the architectural plans for the remodeling project. Among the guests were key members of Maine’s Congressional delegation as well as state representatives and local government officials. Major financial supporters of the Aroostook Hospice Foundation were also in attendance. Both Senators Collins and King, early supporters of the Aroostook House of Comfort, addressed the attendees by means of recorded video messages.

“The acquisition of the former MBNA building is a wonderful development for our project,” said Rick Duncan, Chairman of the Aroostook Hospice Foundation, “the building is extraordinarily well built and it is in outstanding condition. The property is beautifully landscaped and quiet; it will offer our hospice patients an environment of peace and tranquility to spend time with their loved ones.” “We are truly grateful to all of the many individuals who shared our dream of building a hospice house in Northern Maine and were so generous with their financial support. Without their help none of the progress we have made so far would have been possible.” Rick Duncan continued, “We are halfway towards our fundraising goal at this point in time – we still have a ways to go and are counting on additional support from our friends in the County as well as anyone else who believes in hospice care and the need for a free-standing facility in Aroostook County.”

The Aroostook Hospice Foundation is an organization of passionate volunteers dedicated to bringing a free-standing hospice house, Aroostook House of Comfort, to Aroostook County.  The foundation is currently raising funds to establish the County’s first free-standing hospice house and palliative care center.  The 6-bed facility will provide quality, compassionate, palliative and end-of-life care for patients and their families.  The foundation welcomes donations to support this worthy project.
